Do I have to book my visit online before coming to the museum ?

Online booking is not compulsory for admission to the museum. You can buy your tickets directly from the museum ticket office on the day of your visit. The ticket office closes 1 hour before the museum closes.

What payment methods are accepted ?

Tickets can be paid at the museum ticket office by bank card, cheque, cash or ANCV holiday vouchers.

Can I benefit from reduced rates ?

Yes, the Musée de l’Automobile applies reduced rates on presentation of valid proof of entitlement :

  • Students up to and including 26
  • Jobseekers
  • Education pass holders
  • Invalidity card holders
  • Accompanying the disabled person

Is there a senior rate ?

No, the Musée de l’Automobile doesn’t offer a senior rate.

Is admission to the Musée de l’Automobile free for children ?

No. The Musée de l’Automobile is free for children under the age of 4, and offers a €10 youth rate for those aged 4 to 17. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. More info on musee-automobile.fr/en/practical-information/

Can I access the temporary exhibitions with my ticket ?

Admission to the Musée de l’Automobile includes access to the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.

We are a group, do we need to book in advance ?

Reservations are recommended if you wish to take a self-guided group tour. Guided tours must be booked in advance.

Is there a combined ticket with the Cité du Train ?

Can I book a guided tour on the day of my visit ?

No. Unfortunately, the Musée de l’Automobile is unable to respond to requests for same-day guided tours. To take advantage of a guided tour, it must be booked in advance to allow for the availability of a guide.

Can I join a guided tour spontaneously ?

Are there guided tours for children ?

Yes. The Musée de l’Automobile offers guided tours for children. These tours are adapted to the age of the pupils.

How to get to the museum ?

The entrance to the museum is at 17 RUE DE LA MERTZAU, 68100 MULHOUSE.

The Musée de l’Automobile is 5 minutes from Mulhouse city centre, 20 minutes from Colmar and Basel, 30 minutes from Belfort and 1 hour from Strasbourg.

  • Car : Motorway A35 – A36, exit « Mulhouse Centre »
  • Tram : Line 1, stop « Musée de l’Auto »
  • Bus : Line C5 « Jonquilles », stop « Musée de l’Auto »
  • Train : TER, TGV Est & Rhin-Rhône, Mulhouse train station
  • Plane : Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg airport

Does the museum have a car park ?

A large private car park is available in front of the museum for €2 a day. It is also accessible to camper vans and buses. The museum also has a cycle park, which is open during museum opening hours.

Can I come with a camper van ?

Yes, the museum car park is accessible to motorhomes, but it is closed from 8pm to 6am. The daily rate is 2€.

How do I enter if I bought my tickets online ?

The entrance to the Musée de l’Automobile is by the footbridge at 17 rue de la Mertzau, 68100 Mulhouse. You can go straight to the security gates without going through the ticket office.

Are the shop, restaurant and bar accessible without visiting the museum ?

Yes, you can come to the shop, restaurant or bar without buying a ticket.

What are the museum’s opening days and times ?

The museum is open every day of the year, including public holidays (1 January, Easter Monday, 1 and 8 May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, 14 July, 15 August, 1 and 11 November) except 25 December.

  • January : 1pm-5pm weekdays / 10am-5pm weekends
  • February to March : 10am-5pm
  • April to October : 10am-6pm
  • November to December : 10am-5pm

How long does it take to visit the Musée de l’Automobile ?

We recommend that you spend at least 2 hours visiting the museum. It is of course possible to spend more time there, as there are activities on offer throughout the day.

A paper copy is given to you for free at the museum entrance.

Is the museum accessible to people with reduced mobility ?

Yes, people with reduced mobility can move around the museum, as the collection is on a single floor. Wheelchairs are available from the museum entrance office for a deposit of 20€. It is not necessary to reserve a wheelchair.

Are pets allowed in the museum ?

Pets are allowed in the restaurant, bar, shop and cafeteria.

Within the collection, only small dogs in a bag or pushchair are tolerated, but they must not leave the bag.

Are there any activities in the museum ?

Are there any games or activities for children ?

To help children discover the Musée de l’Automobile, the museum offers a range of activities: games booklet, go-kart track (4 to 8 years), arcade games, games area, etc. For more information : musee-automobile.fr/en/discover-the-museum/the-animations/

Is it possible to take photos or film in our museum ?

Yes. The use of a camera for private purposes is authorised within our collection. For commercial use of images, please contact our communications team : musee-automobile.fr/en/about-us/our-team/

Is it possible to take wedding photos ?

Yes. You can take wedding photos in our museum. All you need to do is buy tickets at the museum entrance. The cost is 18€ per adult. Please note that it is not possible to cross the security lines.

Is there a luggage locker ?

For your luggage, lockers are available from the ticket office hostesses (limited quantities). A 10€ deposit will be required.

Due to the VIGIPIRATE PLAN, the lockers are temporarily unavailable. Luggage and suitcases will therefore be checked before entering the museum.

Is the museum air-conditioned/heated ?

The large exhibition hall is not air-conditioned/heated, but the museum has an air-conditioned/heated area in the restaurant and cafeteria.

Are there any catering outlets in the museum ?

There are two food and drink outlets inside the museum. The “L’Atalante” restaurant and the “Chez Fritz” cafeteria offer traditional French cuisine with a view of the Autodrome and the Vosges mountains.

“Le Gatsby – Bar atypique” welcomes you in the afternoon for a refreshing break in a roaring twenties atmosphere. Gourmet platters are also available in the evening. Further information : musee-automobile.fr/en/bar-restaurant/

Can we have a packed lunch on site ?

An outdoor picnic area is available on the Autodrome terrace. However, it is forbidden to eat in the exhibition halls.

Is it possible to organise events at the Musée de l’Automobile ?

Yes. The Musée de l’Automobile offers a wide range of options for organising your professional or private events.

Does the museum’s restoration workshop work for outside clients ?

No. You can turn to professionals.

Does the Musée de l’Automobile sell car parts or vehicles ?

No. You can find car parts from clubs, parts dealers, professionals and at specialist fairs.

Does the Musée de l’Automobile accept donations of vehicles or objects ?
